52. Martha Marcy May Marlene
John Hawkes gives a truly disturbing performance as the leader of an abusive cult. The standout scene is where Patrick plays Martha a song he wrote and it’s terrifying yet beautiful. Elizabeth Olson gives a good performance but outside the “cult” the film plays like a teenage melodrama.

The greatest crime film ever made. I was lucky to go to a screening at the Odeon in Manchester, the print was on the shit side but once I became engrossed in the film the quality of the print didn’t matter.

49. Napoli Spara (Weapons of Death)
Henry Silva in fine form as the underworld boss who gets a little too big for his boots. Shit tonne of violence (weirdly to kids and a kick to a pregnant woman’s stomach) car chases and a fantastic truck top stunt by Leonard Mann. Highly recommended and pretty rare.

47. Blue Thunder
Not that the film was complicated by any means but I had no idea what the plot was till the last ten minutes. Should have had flying sharks and I would love to see a helicopter do a 360 loop in mid air. Decent enough and it paved the way for John Badham to make Short fucking Circuit.

This is the first time I have seen the film properly without someone choking to death or a bad screener with a shit soundtrack. A stunning, stunning film on blu ray. I have fought with myself over the fact its not my top film of last year but Kill List has some weird hold over me.

41. We Need To Talk About Kevin
Sorry but Drive has now been bumped to joint second on my 2011 best of list. I am finally getting round to some cramming from last year and this has been put off for sometime. 40. This Must Be The Place
60 minutes of unintentional comedy followed by 60 minutes of wacky tripe. Terrible film. Best bit about the film was the David Byrne performance.
